| | | Sending incomplete parts! | | This is a follow up on my discussion this morning. The repair guy came and looked at the parts they sent and was not happy because they didn't send a complete set of parts and, of course, the CRITICAL part wasn't there! So, darn it, my dish washer STILL isn't fixed! And boy was HE angry! I think he was biting his lips and tongue to stop from cussing out the person who didn't send the complete set of parts.Have you ever had this problem? I've had it repeatly with Sears and my fridge - the darn thing beeps ENDLESSLY and they can't seem to get the right parts here! But, as soon as the repair guy comes, it stops! You have any repair horror stories? | |

| | Save BILLIONS on your energy bill this month! | | The federal government has been slapping "energy-efficient" ratings on products that don't even exist -- including a bogus space heater with a duster stuck to it and an alarm clock supposedly powered by gasoline. These fake products were submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy for approval as part of an undercover investigation by the Government Accountability Office. The office wanted to see how easily the feds could be duped, since the Energy Star program used to identify products as energy savers serves as a guide to businesses looking for such modern marvels and the basis for millions of dollars in incentivizing tax credits -- including $300 million from the stimulus. The products fooled the federal government three out of four times. Of the 20 products submitted for approval, 15 were given the thumbs up. GAO reported that the federal government generally did not ask for critical evidence to back up its claims about how energy-efficient -- or real -- its bogus products were. "Certification controls were ineffective primarily because Energy Star does not verify energy-savings data reported by manufacturers," the report... | |
| | Do you plan your life to fufill your travel dreams? | | Well today was a very interesting day! Had to have new duct work put in for the heat pump furnace conversion. Which means I had to bundle up in my one home whilst the poor workers crawled under my house to get the work started. I have a bulletin board in my office, it has a calender, business articles, photo's of the great barrier reef and the Egyptian pyramids. When a worker came to change the base heat registries he asked me about those 2 photo's. Said he always wanted to go to Australia. But that wasn't likely to happen in this lifetime. I asked him why, told me life was too expensive...Later, the same worker and I had a small arguement since he moved my modem and somehow I lost connectivity to the net. He told me that the wire that now had a broken clip was like that. I knew better, only got it 2 weeks ago! Anyway, he says he has the same modem, same laptop, 42 inch flat screen tv, WII, Playstation 3 all at home so he knows about wiring. Well we resolved the dispute since I was able to get the cord to work, but he broke it by moving it without my permission and then denied it. Don't care for that. But here's the kicker, he says he's always dreamed of going to... | |
| | Fix the old one or buy a new one??? | | Well, our heat pump is shot, and we're looking at major bucks to fix/replace it. Since the unit is pretty old they may not be able to find a campatable peice and we may end up replacing the whole thing. IF they can find the compatable peice, it's going to be around $3,000. If they can't, it'll be around $6,000. Personally, I'd rather just get it replaced with an energy efficient unit instead of trying to find the old one. Yeah, we're going to pay more today for it, but it'll knock the electric bill down if we get the new one. It'll probably pay for itself in a couple years.Which would you do? Save the money on the unit, buy a replacement and have higher electric bills. Or buy the newer, energy efficient unit, pay a lot more now, but have lower electric bills forever? | |
