Talk about what products you can use that are good for your planet!| I love how underground the Fiery Furnaces are. | | It's a shame that not so many people know about them. But at the same time I like it because they're so unique and I'd be upset to ever hear them sell out to some radio station. The only time I've ever heard them outside of my house or Ipod was in the store Thornes when I was in Noho one day.
| | furnaces | | i am looking at installing a new he furnace. i have carrier; trane; lennox; and amana in my community. any ideas on which is the best? | |

| | Cold in Florida and the furnace has brain damage | | Ok, I know I'm going to get LOTS of pity from you guys up north who are dealing with sub-zero temperatures and here I am whining about it going down into the 30s tonight...BUT....our furnace is giving us a hard time. The heat comes on just fine but the blower doesn't work on Auto so we have to set it to On, which means it runs forever. We can get it up to 85 degrees in here and it won't shut off! So, last night I got it toasty warm in here and we went to bed. This morning it was 68 degrees in the house. I know....awwwww, poor thing! Since we only use the furnace a couple of times a year it's not worth the money to get the stupid thing fixed so I guess my tootsies will be cold tomorrow morning when it's supposed to be even colder down here. Is anyone else dealing with an uncooperative heating system? Why can't things just work like they're supposed to.[em]confused[/em] | |
| | Ice Storm and no heating oil - I can't keep my babies warm! | | I am in the middle of a panic attack/nervous breakdown. We have NO money and I woke up to discover my house cold, the furnace not running and we're out of oil! We can't afford to get any oil, and I have a one year old and a four year old who are just getting over colds and now I can't keep them warm!My oven runs on gas, which we have, so it looks like we';ll be hanging out in the kitchen today while my husband tries to pull a rabbit out of a hat or a tank of fuel oil out of his @ss. I've called the local agencies for charity, just to get enough to keep us warm for a few days till we figure something out, but haven't had any luck yet. There is an ice storm, so we can't even go anywhere. Crap. Has this ever happened to you? How is YOUR day going? There is no hot water here when there is no oil, so I can't even take a shower today and my kids need baths. I think I'm going to throw up... | |
| | Thought the letter was from a friend of my husband's but it was not | | Around noon, when I went to check the mail, we got the usual advertisement, a credit card application, and one letter that was handwritten addressed to my husband. I told him, "it must be one of your friends from work. Maybe there is a funeral or something," so he opened it and found out it was an advertisement for cleaning furnaces and air conditioners. Now most of the time, they will put address labels on the envelope, or will print them on the computer, or they will buy envelopes with the name of the company already printed on, but this was handwritten.
It was really annoying in that it appeared to misrepresent itself as a letter from a friend.
So does that happen to you, that you get a letter that appears to be from a friend or someone who might know you personally and it is just an advertisement and how does it make you feel?
| | MGMT Moves Me | | I recently started listening to the band MGMT. I think they have a wonderfully unique and refreshing sound. "Electric Feel" is a particularly sexy track that has a likeness to Prince and Beck's "Debra". They've only come out with one album thus far, but I think they're a band that's going to stick around and really flourish. They've already performed with Beck, Yeasayer, Radiohead, M.I.A., Band of Horses, Murder by Death, fiery furnaces, CSS, Futureheads, Of Montreal...to name a few, and have plans to collaborate with Of Monreal on an album very soon. If you've heard of them, what do you think of them?think I'm going to throw up... | |
| | keep the fire burning | | this is an excerpt from Our daily Bread. i thought it would be better if i am to post it here so as to encourage us Christians out here to really do our part..modern furnaces have taken the work out of keeeping warm in cold climates. we simply set the timer ont the thermostat, and the house is warm when we get up in the morning. but in former days, fire was carefully tended and fuel supplies were closely monitored. running out could be deadly.the same is true spiritually. if we think our "spiritual fire" can be ignited as easily as a modern furnace, we risk losing our fervor for the LORD. in ancient Israel, the priests were instructed not to let the fire on the altar go out (Lev. 6:9,12-13). this required a lot of work, not the least of which was collecting firewood in a land not known for its dense forest. some schoalrs see the fire on the altar as a symbol for the flame of our devotion for the Lord. Spiritual passion is not something to be treated lightly or taken for granted. it will grow cold if we fail to keep it suppplied with fuel. the apostle Paul addressed the subject of spiritual fervor in his letter to the Romans (12:1-2, 11). to keep the fire... | |
| | not just carbon monoxide.. | | carbon monoxide is the leading cause of fatal poisoning in the industrialized world.. it is the most toxic substance you'll come into contact in your daily life - in your home, at work, garage, car, caravan and boat. most people do not understand the nature of the problem from carbon monoxide poisoning. more importantly, carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless gas that is formed from the partial combustion of carbon containing compound. car exhaust and broken furnaces are common sources of exposure.so be aware and DO NOT be one of the statistics... | |
| | Enlightenment Values - Where now for Democracy, does anyone care? | | Our forefathers believed in Reason, Technology, Science and Human Endeavour as the powerhouse of human progress. But today we've rejected all that.
Capitalism, Free Trade and Immigration were the 19th Century fuel of the furnaces of British and American development. Now we have retreated into a superstitious, fearful society of pessimism and low confidence, and our politics has nothing positive to offer. The default ideology has become Environmentalism, with only negative values - lowered expectations, guilt, coercion, taxes, apocalyptic prophesies, contempt for our freedoms. Where should we go from here?
